Lady Bulldogs Rally to Defeat Lady Locomotives

The Hardin Lady Bulldogs rallied from being down by double-digits in the first half to defeat the Laurel Locomotives, 70-50, and bring their tally to 4-0 in Southeastern A conference play.

The Bulldogs could not buy a bucket in the first half, missing their first 14 shots from the field before Katerina Morrison snapped a three-pointer in the corner put the Bulldogs on the board, down 3-10 with 11 seconds remaining in the period.

Hardin would get within three points in the second after Kylee Old Elk found Evelyn Old Coyote underneath the basket, making it a 16-19 deficit with 2:53 until the half. Laurel would close out the quarter on a 10-4 run to lead, 29-20, going into the break.

Hardin changed up the defense to start the second half, while also increasing their intensity to start cutting into the Laurel lead. Diamond Amyotte hit her second three of the game to give the Bulldogs their first lead, 36-34 with 1:20 left in the third.

Hardin led 38-36 going into the final frame. The teams matched scoring early on before Old Coyote scored on a nice move to the basket to give her team a 50-43 lead. Laurel got within three, but four points from Kylee Old Elk and an old fashioned three-point play from Kadie Bends gave the Bulldogs their first double-digit lead, 57-46 with 4:45 left in the game.

The Bulldogs would close it out from the free throw line, connecting on 11 of 14 over the final minutes for a 70-50 victory.

Hardin’s bench had their highest scoring output of the season, scoring 37% of the total points, equaling 26 points. Their 32 points scored in the fourth was also the most they scored in a single quarter all season.

The Bulldogs will travel to Miles City on Thursday, Jan. 20 before visiting Livingston on Friday, Jan. 21 to face Park High.
