Cultural Enrichment Lecture Series: History of the Public Schools on the Crow Reservation
This week's lecture features Dr. Charles Bradley
Dr. Charles Bradley will present on the History of the Public Schools on the Crow Reservation at noon on Thursday, Feb. 23 in person on Zoom and Facebook.
Bradley wrote his dissertation at MSU which included this topic titled “The Effect of Abundant Resources on the History of Crow Reservation Schools.” It dealt with all Crow Reservation schools beginning in the 1870s including mission and boarding schools and the public schools which largely came into existence as a result of the 1920 Crow Act. The Act transferred some reservation land to the state in exchange for the provision of public schools. Bradley taught at Lodge Grass High School in the early 1970s and has authored other works on the Crows including After the Buffalo Days about the early years of the reservation. His dissertation has considerable information about various tribal members who were involved with the Crow school system.
