CAPS wraps Native American Week with powwow

After a week of activities geared toward cultural teachings Crow Agency Public Schools wrapped Native American Awareness Week with a student powwow.

Traditionally CAPS holds a parade through Crow Agency to end the week, but due to safety concerns, the plan was changed.

Student Advocate Kenny Shane organized the powwow and acted as the MC, saying “It’s good to bring (the powwow) back.”

“The community was very excited to see the powwow,” said added

The powwow, once an annual celebration, had been on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Shane said he quickly got events back together. Shane already has plans for a Valentine Push Dance to be held in February.

Students from all grades in the school were invited to participate, and many donned their regalia and danced to the drumming and singing the Night h awk J r s si nging g roup, with Shane asking them to make a return for the planned February p ush d ance.

Angela Williams, the school’s new principal, an d Shane said they want to thank all of the students who participated, and their family for supporting them.
