The Colstrip Fillies beat the Huntley Project Red Devils for the third time this season to set up a semifinal matchup with the defending State Champions Sweet Grass Herders on Friday.
The Red Devils hung with the Fillies until Madison Big Back went on a personal 13-0 run late in the third that extended into the fourth to give the Fillies a boost to win by a final score of 85-59.
It was the third time the Fillies scored over 80 points this year and the third double-digit victory over Huntley. Colstrip gained an early 8-2 lead, but the young Red Devils didn’t back down as they quickly got within two points.
Canzas Hisbadhorse started an 8-0 run to get the Fillies a 10-point advantage, 20-10, with 1:50 left in the first quarter. Huntley closed the gap to four points only to have Colstrip increase their lead back to 10 before a long three-pointer by Huntley’s freshman Lofing to make it a seven-point game at the break, 42-35.
The Red Devils made it a two-point game with 4:29 to play in the third, before the Fillies answered with a couple more bursts of points, capped off by Big Back’s eight to go into the final frame with a 61-48 lead.
Big Back continued her scoring, hitting a three pointer and two free throws, followed by a Gracie Bradley bucket to get the Fillies ahead by 20 points, 68-58. Huntley would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Big Back led the Fillies with 26 points, while Canzas Hisbadhorse added a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Malea Egan added 13 points, while Bailey Egan chipped in with nine points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. The Fillies outrebounded Huntley, 65-31.
