Hardin Man Convicted in Attack Shared On Social Media

HARDIN – A Hardin man has been convicted of brutal attack caught on camera and shared widely on social media.

Calvin Marvine Leider, 36, of Hardin, was convicted of aggravated assault and partner family member assault on March 6, following a two-day jury trial in Big Horn County District Court in Hardin, County Attorney Jeanne Torske said in a press release.

During the trial, evidence presented by the county attorney revealed that on October 15, 2023, Leider assaulted his then-girlfriend. Footage of the incident was captured on home security camera and shared on social media.

In the video, Leider was seen kicking the victim, dragging her from the car, and kicking her while she was on the ground. After the assault, Leider left the victim lying on the sidewalk.

The jury heard testimony from several witnesses including forensic pathologist Dr. Walter Kemp, who testified about the violent nature of the assault and the life-threatening injuries the victim could have sustained, according to the press release.

Leider faces 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Sentencing is set for April 23.
